Sport, Mobile and Web Application

RaceTrak is a real-time running race tracking platform built for athletes, race organizers, and spectators. The platform delivers live race tracking, lap times, results, and leaderboards across both mobile and web — giving everyone involved in a race a single, reliable place to follow the action as it unfolds. We handled the full product lifecycle — design and development across both platforms.

Brief
RaceTrak needed a product that served three distinct audiences simultaneously — runners who want to track their own performance, race organizers who need to manage and monitor live events, and spectators who want to follow participants in real time. The platform had to be fast, reliable, and intuitive under the real-world conditions of a live race — where data needs to update instantly and the experience has to work flawlessly even under high concurrent load.

Challenge
Real-time sports tracking is technically demanding — live location data, lap times, and leaderboard updates all need to stream continuously without lag or data loss, across potentially thousands of concurrent users during a race event. On top of the technical complexity, the product had to serve very different user needs within the same platform: a runner checking their split times, an organizer monitoring the full field, and a supporter tracking a specific athlete all have completely different requirements from the same data.

Solution
We built a cross-platform real-time race tracking system with live GPS tracking, automatic lap detection, split time recording, dynamic leaderboards, and race result management. The mobile app gives runners and spectators live race visibility on the go, while the web platform provides a richer experience for race organizers and more detailed post-race analytics. WebSocket-based real-time data streaming ensures leaderboards and tracking maps update instantly as race conditions change.
Approach
The architecture was designed around real-time data reliability from day one — using WebSockets for live updates, efficient GPS data processing to minimize battery drain on runners' devices, and a backend built to handle concurrent peak loads during active race events. The design prioritized speed and clarity under pressure — large readable numbers, high-contrast visuals, and minimal navigation so athletes and spectators can get the information they need at a glance, even while moving.
