Brief
iDonate needed a platform that made giving genuinely easy — for first-time donors and regular contributors alike. Beyond the donation flow itself, the platform had to handle Gift Aid claims clearly and accessibly, a notoriously friction-heavy process that many donors abandon. The design had to build trust between donors and causes while encouraging the kind of repeat giving that sustains charitable organizations over time.
Challenge
Donation platforms carry a unique responsibility — they handle not just transactions, but emotional and financial trust. Users need to feel confident that their money is going where it's intended, that the process is secure, and that giving again will be just as easy as giving the first time. Layering Gift Aid functionality on top of this — a process with its own regulatory requirements and user confusion — added meaningful complexity to what needed to feel like a simple, generous act.
Solution
We built a clean, conversion-focused web application with a streamlined donation flow that guided users from cause discovery to confirmed contribution in as few steps as possible. Gift Aid claiming was designed as an integrated, friction-free part of the donation process rather than an afterthought — surfaced clearly at the right moment with simple, plain-language guidance. The platform was built to serve both donors and donees with distinct, purpose-built views and tools.
Approach
Research into how donors and organizations interact with donation platforms — where they lose confidence, where they drop off, and what builds trust — shaped the entire design direction. Low-fidelity wireframes established the core flows before moving into high-fidelity prototypes tested with real users. iDonate's branding and style guide were woven throughout to create a consistent, trustworthy identity across the platform. The goal throughout was to make giving feel as natural and rewarding as possible — what the team internally called creating "donation unicorns": donors who give regularly, generously, and confidently.
