Brief
BuildMacro needed a platform that could serve two very different environments at the same time — the office and the job site. Project managers needed a powerful, data-rich interface for planning and oversight, while field teams needed something fast and frictionless on mobile. The challenge was building one cohesive product that worked equally well for both, without compromising either experience.
Challenge
Construction project management is inherently complex — multiple teams, shifting schedules, budget changes, subcontractor coordination, and document management all happening in parallel. Most existing tools either over-engineer the office experience at the expense of field usability, or simplify so aggressively that the platform becomes too limited for real project management. Getting that balance right for a broad audience of builders across different project sizes was the central design challenge.
Solution
We built a fully responsive cloud platform with adaptive layouts for desktop and mobile — each optimized for its context without diverging into separate products. The interface was designed around the most frequent workflows: tracking project progress, managing budgets, coordinating subcontractors, and communicating across teams. Features including project task management, daily logs, time tracking, a finance dashboard, and a centralized file manager were all built to be accessible in seconds, from any device, at any location.
Approach
The design process was grounded in understanding how construction professionals actually work — often on-site, often in time-pressured situations, often switching between tasks rapidly. Usability testing with real construction workflows drove every iteration. Continuous refinement ensured that complexity was absorbed by the system rather than pushed onto the user, resulting in a platform that could handle the demands of full construction project management without requiring technical expertise to operate.
